A few weekends ago in the midst of cabin fever while tending to a sick toddler I decided to go out for breakfast with the sister to a) get out of cooking breakfast, b) cleaning up after making breakfast & c) give Luke quality time with his child. (Please note: I still had Luke’s breakfast dishes to clean up on return…). We decided on Louis Baxter, a hip eatery that opened its doors in 2011 & was named after the owners dogs.
Surrounded by the trendiest waitstaff in all of Perth, a beautiful mural dominates one wall but the centre point of the café is the amazing drop lights. It had a very industrial feel about it.
Not sure what I was expecting, but the café itself was teeny tiny. Maybe something a lot bigger but then one look at the basic menu & its not the place you procrastinate over the food, you sit, eat , wipe the food off your face & shop all the beautiful boutiques that line Subiaco.
And if your lucky you see a sporting legend. No sign of Swimmer Eamon Sullivan (one of the owners) but this lucky lady saw Steve Hooker, Australian pole vaulter legend. I recognised those locks first then I sneakily took his photo to text partner Luke just to confirm it was him & I wasn’t still half asleep & I imagined him. Nope it was really him.
Annie ordered the breakfast burrito but devoured the travel section of the paper before she ate (she has travel on the brain). While I ordered the Spanish eggs which had a dash of spiciness to it & was just what I needed to kickstart my day.
Overall Louis Baxter may have had an ordinary menu but the produce was fresh & there was nothing ordinary about seeing a sporting legend in the flesh:)
Happy Friday friends!
